Labor Day weekend barbecues are an American tradition. Neighbors, friends, coworkers and family all gather for some grilled food and beer. As a guest, you want to help out the host as much as possible – never show up to a BBQ empty handed. Sure, you could just always bring beer … but what kind of conversation starter is that?

I found six surprisingly simple dishes that everyone will love and you can craft quickly.

1. For the Grill: Parmesan Garlic Grilled Corn

The name alone has my mouth watering. This requires little prep work, just getting the corn and bringing garlic, butter and cheese to the BBQ.

From there you microwave the key ingredients and just brush them on each ear. Ready to serve and easy to make, this dish will save you a lot of time on the weekend. You really can’t have a barbecue without corn!

2. For the Table: Italian Roasted Parmesan Potatoes

This is a personal favorite of mine. My mom cooks these all the time and I love them so much. It only takes about an hour to make, but 55 of those minutes are spent in the oven.

These potatoes go great with veggies and some fresh cooked meats (or faux-meats) off the grill!

3. For an Appetizer: Homemade Peach Salsa

Homemade salsa is always good, and when you add peaches you can cut the spice by adding the sweet. Peach salsa is easy to make, just grab the right ingredients, chop them up, buy some tortilla chips and you’re good to go!

This makes a great appetizer to snack on while you wait for the main course to finish on the grill.

4. For something refreshing: Tomato, cucumber, avocado salad

Another favorite of mine, this salad is quite light and extremely refreshing. It’s ideal for a hot day, and compliments any meal. Topped off with olive oil and red wine vinegar, you have a perfect summer salad that you can pair with bread. Easy to make, easy to serve!

5. For a classic: Potato Salad

You can never go wrong with a potato salad at a BBQ. It’s an oldie but definitely a goodie, and is another great dish for those who don’t eat meat. This dish takes less than a hour, plus makes for great leftovers!

6. For dessert: Strawberry Pie

The title speaks for itself. You can replace the strawberries with any fruit and I’m sure it’ll still taste just as amazing.

Cheers to the weekend off, you deserve it. So go out, have fun and eat well!
