Coming from a military family, Memorial Day has always been one of our favorite holidays. Not only are we reflecting on the sacrifice of our servicemen and women, but the freedom they fought so hard for.
Some of my best memories of my father are Memorial Day weekends we spent at the lake fishing or having a BBQ with our neighbors. Though a traditionally somber holiday, there is no reason you can’t fly your flag high and make this Memorial Day a memorable one.
Memorial Day weekend usually is the “unofficial” start of summer and if the weather is warm enough that means pool parties and BBQ’s. Having fun in the sun is in right now but sun burns are not. If you plan on spending the day poolside I would definitely recommend a good sun screen such as Coppertone and a swim suit cover-up like this one at Nordstrom.
I don’t always want to get my nice digital camera near the pool so thankfully instant cameras are coming back with a vengeance and Best Buy has you covered. You can have a silly photo contest for the kids with props like mustaches and silly hats. The kids can take the photos home as souvenirs.
If you choose to fire up the grill, stop by Williams-Sonoma. They not only offer a variety of steel grill fry pans but also a Quesadilla Grill Basket perfect for the kids to assemble their own quesadillas. My personal favorite is the stuffed Jalapeño Pepper Roaster.
Now that you have all the food is grilled, don’t worry about bringing out the fine china. Use these beautiful plates from Big Lots. For beverages, mason jars are definitely in — they just aren’t for canning anymore. Macy’s has these cute mugs that work for any drink. And Brookstone also has a fabulous Mason Jar Beverage Dispenser that is ideal for everything from adult lemonade to sweet tea.
While Memorial Day is a time for reflection and honoring our service men and women, it is also a great day to spend with you family. Let Find&Save assist in finding all the things you need to create a memorable day.
